A miniature button cell replacing the PX400 mercury cell used in some 1960's and 1970's SLRs e.g. all Pentax Spotmatic models except the SPF and ES. Mercury battery sale and production is now outlawed within the EC and alkaline replacements where available will give 1.5v, causing metering errors. This zinc-air cell gives the same 1.35v as the original mercury one, is environmentally safe, and has a shelf life of 10 years.
N.B. Once the seal has been removed, zinc-air batteries will continue to provide power, even if the camera meter isn't on. This gives them a working life of about 3 months. If you're not planning on using the camera for a significant period of time, replace the seal to extend battery life.
