Adox FX-39 II (formerly Paterson FX-39) is a one-shot compensating developer giving high sharpness plus an optional increase in film speed. It's very flexible, with the compensating effect being adjustable to film type by varying the dilution and development time. Works equally well on traditional and T-grain films. 500ml size gives 5 litres of working solution at standard 1+9 dilution.
Provides excellent detail rendering, sharpness and resolution with all types of films including T-grain types like Ilford Delta and Kodak T-Max up to ISO200.
Created by Geoffrey Crawley, FX-39 is an improved version of the much earlier Willi Beutler Neofin Rot recipe, and was marketed by Paterson until 2004. Adox took over the manufacture and have made detail improvements since - hence the II designation.
Higher dilutions of up to 1+19 increase the compensating effect (but also extend developing time) and reduce the film speed a little. So it's possible to trade compensating effect for film speed within a certain range.
Low toxicity. FX-39 is a perfect substitute for Rodinal in case you can´t order Rodinal due to hazmat shipping restrictions.
