The Gitzo GH3382QD ball head will cope with the heaviest loads, but still weighs only 770g. It’s designed for use with Mountaineer Series 2 and 3 tripods. It features an independent pan lock, built-in spirit level and Arca-compatible camera quick release, used by other tripod brands, complete with 70mm long plate. Innovative materials are combined with a stylish slimline design to provide huge strength with light weight and compact size.
The ball is coated with tungsten disulphide, which is one of the smoothest materials known, and which has minimal “stick-slip” movement. However this extremely low friction means that Gitzo had to devise a very effective locking mechanism which uses hard metal components under and around the ball. This achieves optimum ease of movement and strong , rapid locking with little user effort.
The simple screw-lock quick release mechanism reduces the top plate bulk considerably compared to previous Gitzo designs and will suit the majority of users. Supplied with a GS5370D (70x5mm) plate, it will also accept most other manufacturers’ Arca-pattern plates.
The friction control is conveniently sited within the locking knob, and functions independently of this, enabling a short locking stroke to be achieved.
